M.F. A. Ivo Kristián Kubák (* 1977, Pilsen) is the director, artistic chief and founder of an independent theatre group Tygr v tísni. He studied mathematics at Charles University in Prague, theory and critics at The Department of Theory, Critics and Directing at the Department of Dramatic Theatre, both at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU); in 2013, he enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the same faculty. He is a teacher at Gymnasium na Zatlance, Prague 5, and DAMU. He works mainly in a tandem with dramaturge Marie Nováková. Major works: “Simon Stephens: PUNK ROCK” (translation and direction), “Juráček, Nováková, Kubák: DENÍK 1959-1974” (adaptation and direction), “Meyrink, Nováková, Kubák: GOLEM Štvanice” (adaptation, immersive concept and direction). He usually focuses on drama theatre in site-specific places, non-dramatic texts and scenic readings. His project Golem Cube was chosen to represent the Czech Republic at the Space Exhibition at PQ15.
