Marta Górnicka

Marta Górnickadirector, singer, graduate of the Faculty of Drama Directing at the Warsaw Theatre Academy. She also studied at the Frederic Chopin School of Music in Warsaw, Warsaw University and the State Drama School in Krakow. Author of the film Crave. A Sketch of Recording according to Sarah Kane, which premiered at the Odkryte/Zakryte Festival (Revealed/Hidden) at Warsaw̕s Dramatyczny Theatre. She collaborated with Robert Wilson on the Warsaw production of Symptoms/Akropolis by Gabriella Maione and Stanisław Wyspiański, as well as with Redbad Klijnstra and Swietłana Butskaja on theatre voice work. She has recorded a CD for Polish Radio with songs by Astor Piazzola and staged a number of solo performances. She has led drama workshops in Salzburg, Rome, Tokyo, Berlin, Kiev and London. Since 2009 she has been creating a form of chorus theatre in collaboration with the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, and directing THE CHORUS OF WOMEN – a contemporary tragic chorus.  The premiere of THIS IS THE CHORUS SPEAKING – only 6 to 8 hours… took place in June 2010 in the Theatre Institute in Warsaw. The performance was voted as “Teatr” magazine’s BEST MUSICAL AND ALTERNATIVE THEATRE PERFORMANCE IN POLAND in the 2010/ 2011 season. The choir’s second show MAGNIFICAT premiered a year later. Her shows have been performed at theatre festivals in Germany, The Netherlands, France, India, Switzerland, Japan, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Belgian and Ukraine. In 2012 MAGNIFICAT  won the Jury Prize at the Kontrapunkt Review of Small Theatre Forms, the Main Jury Prize for Direction and Popular Choice Prize at the M-Theatre Festival in Koszalin, as well as three awards at the Mess Festival in Sarajevo. Also in 2012 Marta Górnicka was awarded the First Prize for Directing MAGNIFICAT at the FastForward European Festival of Young Directors in Brunswick. The recent Marta Górnicka’s performance  REQUIEMACHINE opening night took place 24th of March 2013. Performance is coproduced by La Filature – Scene Nationale, Mulhouse, Theatre National de Strasbourg, Le Maillon – Theatre de Strasbourg and Ringlokschuppen, Mulheim an der Ruhr.
